Macpherson Red Modern

LIMITED EDITION
These kilts are custom made to size with adjustable straps so you have room if you need it. Make sure to measure properly as there are no returns! Measure from your TRUE waist .. just about the middle at the belly button or just below your belly button… that is where the waist is and where you SHOULD wear your kilt. DO NOT wear your kilt at the hip waist (fun fact: all men’s trousers used to be at the traditional real waist). Take a measuring tape and go around your middle and read what it says on the tape. The average length of kilts are 24 inches long, but if you are shorter or extra tall they can be longer or shorter. Take a measure taking hold of it from your true waist and let it dangle down to about just above your knee; it can go a wee further to the middle of your knee but personally I would not do this.
All kilts come with belt loops and hangers if you so choose to hang up your kilts.
Please be accurate as possible before submitting as there are NO refunds on kilts.

Description

A member of clan Chattan confederation also known as the cat tartan from their nickname of clan cat.
The Scottish Gaelic surname for Macpherson is Mac a’ Phearsain which means son of the parson. The Celtic church allowed priests to marry and the progenitor of the chiefs of Clan Macpherson is believed to have been a man named Muireach or Murdo Cattenach who was the priest of Kingussie in Badenoch. The Clan Macpherson is part of the Chattan Confederation (Clan Chattan). In 843 the chief of Clan Chattan was Gille Chattan Mor and one of his sons, the first chief of Clan Macpherson was forced to resettle in Lochaberby Kenneth MacAlpin, first king of Scots. The chief could have been the lay prior of Ardchattan and he seems to have been named in honour of Saint Cathan. Touch not the cat bot a glove. ‘Bot’ means without. The ‘glove’ of a wildcat is the pad. If the cat is ‘ungloved’, its claws are unsheathed. The motto serves as a warning that one should beware when the wildcat’s claws are ‘without a glove’. It is a reference to the historically violent nature of the clan and serves as a metaphorical warning to other clans that they should think twice before interfering with Macpherson business.
